Sri Lanka VS Ireland
Today, Wednesday, October 20, 2021, the eighth match of the T20 World Cup between Ireland and Sri Lanka was played at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Ground, Dubai. The Irish captain decided to bowl first after winning the toss and invited the Sri Lankan team to bat first. The opening batsmen of the Sri Lankan team got out early but the opening batsman Patham Nisanka played his best innings of 61 runs off 47 balls with the help of 1 six and 6 fours. Playing brilliant innings of 71 runs, Captain Dushan Shanaka scored 22 off 11 balls; Sri Lanka scored 171 for 7 in 20 over’s and gave the Irish team a big target. The Irish team could not bowl well, only Joshua little bowled 4 wickets for 23 runs in 4 over’s and Mark Adhir bowled 2 wickets for 35 runs in 4 over’s. In pursuit of the target, the opening pair of the Irish team returned to the pavilion quickly, captain Andrew Balmimi scored 41 off 39 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 2 fours and Courtesy Kemper scored 24 off 28 balls with the help of 2 fours. None of the incoming batsmen could face the Sri Lankan bowling, the team was bowled out one after the other and the entire team piled up 101 runs in 3.18 over’s. In bowling for Sri Lanka, Chamika took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 3.3 over’s, Maish Thiksana took 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 over’s while Lairo Kumara took 2 wickets for 22 runs in 4 over’s. Thus, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 70 runs to win the eighth match of the T20 World Cup 2021.
The Irish captain's decision to bowl first after winning the toss was not justified, as Sri Lanka easily set the match-winning target on the board, which made it difficult for the Irish team to reach the target.
